I’ve become a functionary. You know, I go to a lot of functions. I go to business and social functions for…my business. But sometime I have fun, so am I a fun-tionary or a functionary?
I now actually like most of them; although they do sometimes infringe on my family time and I’m concerned about that. But I guess, so does writing.
In a previous life when I was a Marketing Directory I also went to a lot of events, regional, national and an occasional international one.
I wore the corporate hat, smiled and chatted about mundane current events or the weather.
I always thought I was good at these “greet and meets” because my job was to talk and agree a lot.
Since I didn’t alienate any customers, the events always seemed to go over well. Now these functions seem so much more important to me.
You see, I am setting the standard for which my company is judged.
People see and hear me at these events and they judge my company by what they think of me.
I am the reflection of what I’m trying to build.
In a normal work week I will have at least two, but sometimes three functions that I attend.
A few weeks back, I got home just before nine after a speech. These are long days…
